About Us

Unforgettable at the Yorktowne Hotel

Celebrating more than 15 years of delighting audiences throughout the Susquehanna Valley region of the United States, Unforgettable Big Band pays tribute to great artists such as Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller and Artie Shaw who represent the glory days of swing. We also perform new big band literature and arrangements from Gordon Goodwin, the Brian Setzer Orchestra, and even Carlos Santana, Queen, and Bruno Mars. Our vocalists honor the great singers of the big band era, from Peggy Lee to Doris Day, and from Cab Calloway to Frank Sinatra, Bobby Darin and more.

Unforgettable Big Band is a community big band based in York, Pennsylvania that draws some of the most talented musicians from all across the region who are interested in maintaining the vitality of music from the Big Band era. The band has performed throughout the region, and  become one of the area's best known and most liked bands. As a community band, service is a part of our mission.  It is our desire to give back to the generations that have paved the way before us.

The band is available for parties, receptions, special events and corporate functions, in addition to traditional dance and concert engagements. We endeavor to accommodate worthy fund raising efforts, as well. Currently organized as a non-profit corporation, Unforgettable Big Band is dedicated to continuing the American big band tradition.

For more information, or to schedule the band for your next event, please follow the other links on our website, or send us an email through the "Contact Us" link above, and we will get back to you with information on how you can make your next celebration Unforgettable.

Swing at the Market Street Canteen

Unforgettable Big Band will be providing the music as downtown York swings during the York County Heritage Trust midwinter extravaganza on January 21. The Trust is bringing the atmosphere of the World War II years to life at the "Market Street Canteen," and inviting any and all history buffs, swing dancers, and friends to step out and swing at the Trust headquarters and museum at 250 E. Market Street in York.

Happy New Year - Happy New Look

Unforgettable Big Band would like to take this opportunity to wish all of our friends and fans a very happy and prosperous 2016. As we enter the new year, we've freshened up our website with a new design and a new back end to help to keep you more informed about where we will be, and what we will be doing as we enter our 16th season.

2015: It Was A Very Good Year

Tonia Grubb performs at the Doris Day Birthday Bash

The year 2015 was a milestone year for Unforgettable Big Band, we celebrated our 15th season of bringing the swing to York County and surrounding areas, and it was a busy year like none before it. With new venues, new music, and exciting events, the band enjoyed unprecedented success, perhaps nowhere more noticeable than in the fan counter on our facebook page, which more than doubled, from just over 1,200 "likes" at the end of 2014 to more than 2,500 by the time 2015 closed.

Sinatra Centennial

December 12, 2015 marked the 100th anniversary of the birth of one of the most legendary musical performers in history. Frank Sinatra arrived in Hoboken, New Jersey, and at 13 1/2 pounds, he was a big thing from the start. Unforgettable Big Band paid tribute to the man and his music with one of our most ambitious performances ever. Sinatra Centennial played for two sold out audiences on December 11 and 12 at York Little Theatre, featuring many of the signature songs Sinatra was known for.

Our History

Unforgettable Big Band was founded in the summer of 2000 by Steve Spangler, a saxophonist, and resident of Lake Meade, near East Berlin, Pennsylvania. Steve loved big band music, and was able to find a few friends nearby who shared his interest. Steve consulted Jim Spark, newly appointed Minister of Music at First Presbyterian Church in York, who formerly toured as a member of the band True Reflection, and together they formed what would soon become Unforgettable, with Spark as musical director and Spangler as band manager and owner.
